Wedding Licenses

To purchase a marriage license for your beautiful Sanibel Island wedding, contact the Lee County office of the Clerk of Courts at (239) 533-5007 or www.leeclerk.org. The cost of a license is $93.50 plus a 3.25% convenience fee which is waived for local personal checks and cash. The marriage license is valid for 60 days. To qualify for a license both parties must apply in person with proper identification. If either party was previously married, divorced, went through an annulment or was widowed, the clerks office will need to know the dates but the paperwork is no longer required.

Florida does not require a blood test. Florida residents must wait 3 days after issue of license before they can be married. The 3 day waiting period can be waived for Florida residents if they take a pre-marital counseling course.

A list of pre-marital counseling providers is available on the Clerk of Courts website. The 3 days waiting period is waived for non-Florida residents. Weddings may be performed by a member of the Clergy, Notary Public or member of the judiciary or Clerk of Courts.
